چکیده

This paper presents a post-packaging tuning process for microresonators by PLD (pulsed laser deposition). The microresonators are first hermetically packaged using a RTP (rapid thermal processing) aluminum-to-silicon nitride bonding process. The resonator mass is then altered by adding materials on the surface of the structure using PLD to achieve the desired resonant frequency. The demonstrated tuning resolution is 0.5% per laser shot with a laser beam spot size of 25 × 25 μm2 and fluence of 616 mJ cm−2. The laser pulse duration is 6 ns and a 0.35 μm thick gold film is used as the deposition material for comb-drive microresonators resonating at 12.45 kHz.

Tuning extension of a Difference-Frequency generation up to 100 nm using V-shaped external-cavity for the pump laser

In this research, tunability of a commercial diode laser has extended to about more than ± 11 nm using a V-shaped external-cavity fabricated around the laser. Although under normal condition it can be tuned up to about ± 4 nm just by changing its temperature and injection current. Such modified diode laser has then used in a difference-frequency generation (DFG) experimental setup as pump sourc...

Switchable and tunable bulk acoustic wave resonators based on BaxSr1−xTiO3 thin films

The main focus of this thesis is the study of a novel microwave component, the tunable thin film bulk acoustic wave resonator (TFBAR), based on ferroelectric BaxSr1−xTiO3 thin films. Conventional fixed frequency TFBARs, widely used for filtering applications in wireless communication systems, are based on ordinary piezoelectrics. The tunable TFBAR on the other hand utilizes the dc field induced...

Layer-by-layer Growth for Pulsed Laser Deposition

Pulsed laser deposition (PLD) is a popular growth method, which has been successfully used for fabricating thin films. Compared to continuous deposition (like molecular beam epitaxy) the pulse intensity can be used as an additional parameter for tuning the growth behavior, so that under certain circumstances PLD improves layer-by-layer growth. We present kinetic Monte-Carlo simulations for PLD ...
